USGBC Works for Greener Chattanooga with Coptix-Built Website

The US Green Building Council (USGBC), a not-for-profit group made up of more than 10,500 member organizations and 75 regional chapters, is America's leading voice in introducing and promoting sustainable best practices for the building industry.
The core purpose of the USGBC is to change the way that buildings and communities are designed, built and operated, enabling an environmentally and socially responsible, healthy and prosperous environment that improves quality of life. The organization is most widely known for the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system, which sets measurable standards for high performance green buildings. However, the USGBC also functions as a networking and enabling organization, gathering architects, designers, engineers, consultants, contractors and others around issues of sustainable design and construction.
As a networking organization, the USGBC knows the importance of bringing people together, so the group's new Chattanooga chapter enlisted Coptix, Inc. to create an internet presence that would further this goal. Part blog, part event calendar, and part information resource, the site features upcoming events and links to local green building initiatives, eco-minded professional services firms and relevant city agencies.
"Green is all over the news these days, so it is hard to deny how important it is to reduce the negative impact we have on the environment," said Heather Adcox of ecoDesign sustainable design consultants and the USGBC. "There are steps that we can take on a local level that will cause effect on a global level. The East Tennessee Chapter of the USGBC educates and advocates high performance design and construction specific to our very own community. Design professionals, contractors, building owners, developer and home owners all have things we can do to improve our community, our environment and our future."
"At Coptix, we believe that promoting a sustainable future for our city involves more than creating jobs and economic development - it must include environmental and social factors," said Coptix Executive Vice President Josiah Roe. "To this end, we believe that supporting green initiatives in town should mean more than sponsoring great events like Green Drinks. We were pleased to help promote the local USGBC chapter events and member organizations, because their work benefits all Chattanoogans."
